[FPN Reporter Joon-Ho Park] = Koryo Pyrotechnics Co.,Ltd. (CEO Young-Jun Cho) unveiled an Automatic Powder Fire Extinguishing System designed for early fire containment at this year's expo.
Following a tragic fire in a residential block in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do, on 17 July last year, which claimed seven lives and left one injured, the government has drawn up new safety measures. Through state funding, it has pledged to retrofit 30,000 fire-vulnerable piloti-style residential buildings with automatic diffusion fire extinguishers. With the growing necessity for early suppression equipment in areas with a high risk of rapid fire spread, interest in automatic fire suppression systems has surged.
Koryo Pyrotechnics’ automatic powder fire extinguishing system comprises a main unit and a self-generating device. Once the self-generating device senses heat, it triggers a gas generator within the main unit. This ruptures the discharge membrane, instantly releasing the dry powder extinguishing agent. Each unit provides a protection volume of 20.77 cubic metres (m³) and can be installed at a height of up to 3 metres.
Thanks to the self-generating device, which requires no separate mains power, real-time detection remains fully operational even in the event of a power cut.
Ease of installation is another key benefit. The process simply involves securing a bracket to the target area, attaching the main unit, mounting the self-powered operating device, and connecting them via a cable. The system can be either ceiling- or wall-mounted, offering flexibility to suit the layout of the site. Furthermore, because the self-generating device and the main unit are standalone components, they can be positioned to best fit the site's conditions—ensuring the heat-sensing point and the powder discharge point are placed exactly where they are most effective.
A spokesperson for Koryo Chemical stated, "This automatic powder fire extinguishing system has been developed to operate autonomously in spaces where immediate human intervention is difficult during the early stages of a fire." They further explained, "It is suitable for a wide range of environments, including car parks, electrical and mechanical plant rooms, and hazardous material storage facilities."
"We will continue to invest in technological development to consistently deliver reliable products," they added.
